Photo shoot and deer sitings...

Last week, I had the opportunity to photograph some sweet southern kiddos.  Despite the warm temps and sweat dripping off me, we got some great shots.

Now on to the deer siting (really smooth transition, huh!?)...

Lately, we've seen increased deer activity in our backyard - something that we haven't seen in a couple of years.  I've posted several deer sitings on FB so I thought I'd share here as well.

I'm not really as obsessed with deer in our backyard as it may appear. It's just that this gal and I had a little "encounter" last night where I seriously thought she was going to mosey right on into the house and make herself at home. 

We even had a stare down...I won! I'm surprised at how close she came (15 yards) considering I was pointing my camera at her the entire time and Quincy was in the background practically leaping out of Bob's clutch to check her out.

This will really show you just how dark it was outside...

Ahhhh, the benefits of shooting in raw and applying the magic of Photoshop!  Gotta love it!

We never need to look for the deer in the yard because Quincy is usually on deer patrol and notifies us immediately when anything appears that is out of the ordinary.

The debut...

Over the weekend, this doe was hanging around the backyard all day long.  Almost instantly, Bob predicted that she must've given birth the night before. 

(Yeah right, I secretively thought!)

Needless to say, Quincy was on high alert at the window the entire day.  If something or someone is in our backyard, we'll know it because he's a phenomenal guard dog! I swear, he can spot a squirrel and let us know in about 10 seconds flat!

That was Saturday.

Random Ramblings...

It seems like it has been f.o.r.e.v.e.r. since I've written a post so today, I'm cramming all the catch-up info into one single post!

A couple of weeks ago I did some photography for a friend (who just happens to be my hair stylist).  Her parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony - what an accomplishment!  (Not only for them but for me as well since I've never done this type of photography!)  ;-)

 

During my mini-hiatus, I visited my sister, BIL and of course, had to snap a couple of photos of their "son", Jake (BTW, he's one of the SMARTEST dogs ever!)...

That same day, I had the pleasure of having dinner with life-long friends (Ron & Karen) who had recently remodeled their kitchen and boy did the food taste great from their new digs!  (Just kidding, it has always been delish even from the old kitchen!)

 

  

 This week has been especially busy.  For the first time ever, I did some senior photos (lots of firsts going on here)...

This week, I also photographed the new little niece, Katie Beth, of the senior above...what an amazing little model she was...absolute PERFECTION!

 

 

This morning, we spent some time scouting new locations for photos and found THIS little gem of a location...

Busy times but most definitely fun!

Movin' on...

So apparently, Google Reader will be doing a disappearing act within the next couple of months.  As a result, we've had to move on over to a brand new blog home called Bloglovin!  I'm bummed about it but hope to make a smooth transition.  Time will tell...

Visit to the farm...

The other day I had the opportunity to visit a local farm where there were baby lambs!  In fact, one was stuck in the birth canal when we arrived at the farm...eeek!  Thankfully, the mother my friend Rachel jumped right in to lend a hand (actually an arm) and helped successfully deliver the little lamby!  What an amazing experience!

Oh, and there was a "micro" pot-belly pig there too.

Lola and her sister...

Today I had the opportunity to meet and photograph these little cuties.  My friend, Robin, is helping a friend sell these little girls.  Robin has such a big heart - her friend's husband passed away recently so her friend is struggling (I can't even imagine how incredibly difficult that would be!).  Robin offered to help find forever homes for these lil' gals.

 That's just how Robin rolls!

I could barely contain myself because they were just so darn cute!  I love the fuzziness of Lola's sister.  She reminds me of Quincy who, by the way, was in his duffle bag during the entire shoot. 

He was outstanding - only whining a couple of times.  I had to zipper him in so that he wouldn't jump out and try to bully these cuties!  I think he was dying to have some play time but no such luck.

I wanted to stuff Lola's sister into my pocket when we left but I think Q might've had something to say about that...and Bob too!

Just go with it...

Last week, I had the honor of photographing the grandson of my good friend, Rita (thanks Rita - and Lori!).  This was the best newborn shoot that I've done so far because this little guy was cooperative beyond belief!  He was so happy to just snuggle up and snooze just about the entire time!

Aren't newborns just the sweetest little beings ever?  Vaughn was only 9 days young when I had the privilege of taking his first photos.  He was the absolute BEST baby ever!

This last photo makes me laugh...almost out loud as I look at it! You wouldn't believe what it took to get this teeny tiny little guy in this sling without it looking like he was being swallowed up by the sling!  I'm not sure Vaughn weighed in at 6 lbs at this point so you can image how tiny and limp he was.

Trust me when I say that this was NOT posed in any way.  Seriously, what you see is what you get...literally.  I was behind the camera while the mommy and grammy were both holding up the sling (one person at each end, just slightly above a newborn beanbag...safety first).  I was quickly snapping away, not really paying much attention to the pose; praying for a print worthy shot!

It wasn't until I was editing the photos that I realized how incredible this shot was!

Sometimes you just have to go with it!

Playin' catch up...

It looks like the month of January vanished into thin air before I had time to catch up on my blog posting for the month! 

My dear friend and fellow photographer, Kristi, generously loaned her beautiful kiddos to me for a mini session mid month so I could practice with my new lighting setup.  Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kristi!

Of course no month could go by without capturing my pal Nolan...(thank you Erica for the adorable sign and the garland!)

A couple of Fridays ago, this little guy stole my heart - I think I'm smitten!

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of photographing adorable little Amelia at just 14 days young...

 

I'm looking forward to the month of February!  Today, hopefully little Vaughn will make his entrance into this world and maybe in a few short weeks Miss Mia will as well!
